MPI Assistant Controller

About the role

McWane's newly created Plant and Industrial division (MPI) is hiring a Corporate Assistant Controller in Birmingham, Alabama. The role sits within the accounting and finance team, directly reporting to the MPI Controller, and supports the daily operation of the division's accounting functions. It includes supervision and oversight of payroll.

Key responsibilities

• Lead month-end and year-end close processes, including journal entries and reconciliations
• Prepare and review financial statements and management reports, analyze variances and ensure GAAP compliance
• Support forecasting and budgeting and support audits
• Oversee multi-site payroll operations, review payroll journal entries and reconciliations, and maintain payroll internal controls and regulatory compliance
• Reconcile assigned balance sheet accounts, manage fixed assets and maintain the cost of direct ship products
• Work with Plant Assistant Controllers to drive process improvements

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field from an accredited institution
• At least six years of accounting or business-related experience
• Proven knowledge of financial statements, journal entries and GAAP, with documented growth in responsibility
• History of building positive working relationships in a multi-stakeholder culture and ability to work in a team
• Able to travel by car or plane to manufacturing sites

Required skills

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office, especially Excel
• Preferred: manufacturing accounting experience and Microsoft Dynamics 365
