Model-Based Systems Engineer (MBSE) – Missile Defense

About the role

APEX TK is looking for a Model-Based Systems Engineer to support the Targets and Countermeasures program office of the Missile Defense Agency. You will apply systems engineering principles within a digital engineering framework to create, analyze, and maintain system architecture models.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and maintain SysML system models capturing behaviors, structures, interfaces, and operational requirements.
• Map system‑level and component‑level requirements to architecture artifacts, ensuring traceability and baseline integrity.
• Support MDA Digital Engineering initiatives by linking MBSE models with external tools, simulations, and data repositories.
• Prepare and present model‑centric artifacts for major program milestone reviews (SRR, PDR, CDR, CCBs).
• Conduct architectural trade studies, analyze interface definition documents, and model system interfaces to identify gaps and mitigate integration risks.
• Maintain version control and configuration baseline compliance for SysML models per program data management standards.

Required profile

• Active DoD Secret clearance.
• Bachelor’s degree with 7+ years experience supporting missile defense or large‑scale DoD programs.
• Proficiency with SysML and core systems engineering frameworks such as DoDAF and UAF.

Required skills

• SysML modeling tools (Cameo Systems Modeler / Cameo Enterprise Architect, MagicDraw, Sparx Enterprise Architect).
• Requirement management tools (DOORS, Cameo Requirements Plugin).
• Issue‑tracking platforms (Jira, Confluence).
• Integration with analytical/simulation environments (MATLAB/Simulink, Python, OpenMBEE).
