Mobile Service Technician - Light Equipment

About the role

The Home Depot is hiring a Mobile Service Technician (MST) in Milltown, NJ, who maintains and repairs light construction equipment such as skid steers, chippers, trenchers and mini-excavators at store locations or customer job sites. The schedule is Sunday to Thursday, and candidates must live within 20 miles of Milltown, NJ. The position reports to the regional Field Operations Manager and has no direct reports.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain a fleet of rental equipment with an emphasis on preventive maintenance, making routine store visits to inspect, document and maintain every unit
• Perform minor repairs, respond to service calls, order parts and use the company technology platform to record labor and parts
• Train store associates and customers on equipment operation and adhere to safety requirements, including Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations
• Maintain MEWP certifications, accurate parts and fleet inventory, and transfer equipment between locations
• Deploy new equipment to stores, including pre-delivery inspections and training
• Handle occasional overnight travel (less than 10%) and assist with equipment deliveries and pickups

Required profile

• Age 21 or older, legally permitted to work in the United States, and able to meet DOT medical certification requirements
• Close vision, color vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus
• Physical demands: intermittent periods of continuous exertion, lifting, prolonged standing, working at heights and exposure to dust, fumes or odors
• Resident within 20 miles of Milltown, NJ; schedule Sunday to Thursday

Required skills

• Preferred: 1+ year of experience servicing construction equipment, including small engines and hydraulics
• Preferred: ability to read technical repair and parts manuals, inventory management, and familiarity with handheld devices
• Preferred: Microsoft Office Suite, negotiation and complaint handling, strong written and verbal communication

Pay range for California, Colorado, Connecticut, Rhode Island, Nevada, New York City, Ithaca (NY), Westchester County (NY) and Washington residents: $25.00 - $27.00.
