Medical Technician – UHealth Labs (Full‑time)

About the role

The UHealth Laboratories Department at the University of Miami is seeking a full‑time Medical Technician to support routine laboratory operations in Miami, FL. The role involves preparing and analyzing specimens, administering medications, and maintaining accurate medical records.

Key responsibilities

• Assist with chemical analyses of blood, urine and other body fluids using microscopes or automatic analyzers.
• Enter test findings into the laboratory database.
• Set up, adjust, maintain and clean laboratory equipment.
• Observe aseptic techniques when obtaining blood and tissue samples.
• Analyze test results using mechanical and electrical devices to ensure conformity to specifications.
• Perform blood tests for transfusion purposes and complete blood counts.
• Obtain specimens, cultivate, isolate and identify microorganisms.
• Consult with a pathologist when abnormal cells are detected.
• Adhere to university policies, safeguard assets and follow safety protocols.

Required profile

• High School Diploma or equivalent; relevant experience, certification or license as required by the department.
• Minimum of 1 year of relevant laboratory experience.
• Ability to learn new procedures, technologies and adapt to changing priorities.
• Strong teamwork and communication skills.
• Proficiency with office software and relevant computer applications.
