Medical Coder - Family Medicine

About the role

UnitedHealth Group is hiring a Medical Coder for Family Medicine, based in Eden Prairie, Minnesota, with the option to telecommute from anywhere in the U.S. The coder assigns diagnostic and procedure codes to primary care and family medicine records according to clinical documentation and coding guidelines.

Key responsibilities

• Assign accurate diagnostic and procedure codes according to clinical documentation and official coding guidelines for Primary Care and Family Medicine
• Assign CPT and ICD-10 codes to all services
• Monitor work queues so that all records are coded in a timely manner
• Generate coding queries to clarify physician documentation when needed
• Stay up to date on coding convention changes and updates
• Manage a significant workload under pressure and meet deadlines with minimal supervision

Required profile

• High school diploma or GED
• Professional coder certification with AHIMA and/or AAPC credentialing (CPC, COC, CPC-P, CCS) maintained annually
• 2+ years of experience with ICD-10 and CPT coding, focused on Primary Care and Family Medicine
• Preferred: 2+ years of post-certification medical coding experience and 2+ years of outpatient physician (Pro-Fee) coding

Required skills

• 2+ years using PCs in a Windows environment, including MS Excel and EMR systems
• Preferred: experience with Epic
