Media and Communications Lead

About the role

Refugees International is seeking a dynamic Media and Communications Lead to amplify its advocacy impact worldwide. Reporting to the Vice President for Strategic Outreach, you will work across the organization to translate policy issues into compelling narratives that drive attention and action.

Key responsibilities

• Serve as the primary contact for domestic, regional, and international media inquiries and proactively pitch stories to increase visibility.
• Build and maintain relationships with journalists, editors, and media outlets in the U.S. and target countries.
• Draft, edit, and coordinate press releases, media advisories, op‑eds, talking points, and other communications materials.
• Organize rapid‑response media briefings and support advocacy campaigns, reports, events, and external engagements.
• Track, compile, and analyze media coverage and engagement metrics.
• Copy‑edit longer‑form research products and support digital content creation, social media, website management, email marketing, and event communications.

Required profile

• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with a strong sense of narrative and audience framing.
• Deep understanding of media trends, digital communications, and the global information landscape.
• Proven ability to pitch stories and secure coverage in fast‑paced environments.
• Excellent organizational skills and ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
• Creative, strategic, solutions‑oriented thinker with strong judgment and adaptability.
