Mechanical Technician – Advanced Assembly (Contract)

About the role

Akkodis is looking for a Mechanical Technician to join a client’s team in Torrance on a 6‑month+ contract. The role focuses on advanced mechanical and electrical assembly of precision mechanisms and positioning systems in a low‑volume, high‑technology environment.

Key responsibilities

• Fasten components using hand tools, rivet guns, torque wrenches and welding equipment.
• Position and align parts manually or with material‑handling tools.
• Interpret assembly blueprints, schematics and specification manuals to guide wiring and machine building.
• Repair, rework and replace damaged parts; install piping, fixtures, wiring and electrical components.
• Inspect and test parts for leaks, defects or functionality using electronic, optical and mechanical test equipment.
• Measure clearances and verify conformance with calipers, gauges, micrometers, indicators, lasers and laser trackers.
• Perform drilling, reaming, tapping, cutting, and surface finishing operations.
• Execute preventative maintenance and update checklists.
• Work independently on field installations, applying problem‑solving judgment.

Required profile

• High School diploma or GED.
• Minimum 5 years of machine building/assembly experience.
• Advanced mechanical and basic electrical troubleshooting abilities.
• Proficiency in reading blueprints, schematics and technical drawings.
• Experience setting up, operating and MDI of CNC machinery.
• Capability to cut and weld metal (MIG and TIG) and operate milling, drilling, turning and grinding equipment.
• Knowledge of system‑level mechanical testing, z‑mapping, planar/cylindrical/spherical alignment.
• Experience with aerial devices, elevated platforms or rigging, and ability to lead or work solo on installations.
