Mechanical Technician 2

About the role

IKO Industries Ltd., a Canadian-owned manufacturer of roofing and building materials, is hiring a Mechanical Technician 2 in Chester, NY. The technician works in the maintenance shop and production area, following the IKO 7 Life Critical Program and the company's values, and is expected to learn the full scope of the role over 18 months.

Key responsibilities

• Complete preventive maintenance, repair maintenance and training tasks consistently, accurately and completely.
• Maintain a clean work environment in the maintenance shop and production area.
• Use the Maximo computerized maintenance management system and the Modula storeroom racking system.
• Apply the problem-solving process to separate the effect of a problem from its cause.
• Lead groups of lower-level technicians and apprentices on preventive or repair maintenance.
• Ensure safety for personnel and equipment before equipment is taken out of or put back into service.

Required profile

• 3-5 years of experience in the manufacturing industry (continuous manufacturing preferred).
• 3-5 years of experience with lock-out/tag-out procedures and willingness to wear arc-rated PPE up to 8 cal/cm2.
• Able to walk the plant, climb ladders, twist and bend routinely, and lift up to 75 pounds.
• Flexible to changing shift times when needed.
• Good communication skills and a willingness to share information while keeping confidentiality.

Required skills

• Assemble, clean, repair and reassemble complex mechanical devices; read assembly drawings and P&ID's.
• Welding: flat weld with 6011 and 304L rod, MIG weld carbon and stainless steel, vertical stick and MIG welds (6011, 7018, 308L).
• Rigging, compressed gas handling, oxy/acetylene torch, and basic hand and power tools.
• Laser alignment tooling (Fluke 835) and advanced one-line diagrams and P&IDs.
• Forklift operator certification, including articulating and scissors lifts.
• Fire alarm reset and hydrant pressure troubleshooting.
