Mechanical Technician 1

About the role

IKO Industries Ltd., a Canadian-owned manufacturer of roofing and building materials, is hiring a Mechanical Technician 1 in Chester, New Jersey. The role covers preventive and repair maintenance, hands-on equipment work and the use of maintenance management systems.

Key responsibilities

• Follow the IKO 7 Life Critical Program and IKO values on site.
• Complete preventive maintenance, repair maintenance and training tasks accurately, and keep the maintenance shop and production area clean.
• Use Maximo and the Modula storeroom racking system, and keep a personal tool chest stocked with small hand tools.
• Diagnose and repair soft-foot and coupling misalignment, identify pneumatic components, and install roller chains, sprockets, pulleys, bushings and drive belts with proper tension.
• Replace shafts and bearings, check gearbox lubricant levels, and use torque wrenches, dial indicators and micrometers.
• Handle compressed gas cylinders safely and operate oxy/acetylene torches, drill presses, bandsaws, bench grinders and welding equipment (flat weld with 6011 and 304L rod, MIG weld).
• Reset fire alarm systems, troubleshoot hydrant pressure with booster pumps, and use basic rigging equipment.
• Obtain forklift certification (articulating and scissors lifts) within 18 months of starting.

Required profile

• 3-5 years of experience in manufacturing, preferably continuous manufacturing, and 3-5 years with lock-out/tag-out procedures.
• Able to walk the plant, climb ladders, twist and bend, and lift up to 75 pounds routinely.
• Flexible to changing shift times.
• History of solving problems, sharing information, keeping confidentiality, and ensuring safety before equipment is put into service.

Required skills

• Read assembly drawings and P&ID's.
• Assemble, clean, repair and reassemble complex mechanical devices.
• Start, stop and check air compressors and chillers.
• Wear arc-rated PPE up to 8 cal/cm2.
