Mechanical Systems Engineer - Passenger Trains

About the role

Stadler is looking for a Mechanical Systems Engineer in Salt Lake City, Utah, to join an international team focused on creating and reviewing efficient designs for state-of-the-art passenger trains, managing complex interfaces and integrating brake systems. The engineer works closely with Mechanical, Electrical and Software teams and acts as the main technical contact for external system suppliers.

Key responsibilities

• Create concepts, specifications and technical documentation for passenger train systems.
• Design and integrate systems into various rail vehicles.
• Coordinate technical and project system requirements between Mechanical, Electrical, Software and other engineering teams.
• Act as the primary technical liaison for contracted external system suppliers.
• Incorporate local, federal and customer requirements into system designs.
• Define procurement, type testing and commissioning documentation.
• Support static and dynamic field testing of rail vehicles.
• Perform First Article Inspections (FAI) of assigned systems.
• Follow scheduling, budgetary goals and guidelines, and ensure effective cross-departmental collaboration.

Required profile

• BS or MS degree in Mechanical, Aerospace or similar engineering.
• Experience designing and defining mechanical systems.
• Independent, well-structured working methods and ability to work in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
• Self-motivated, able to use initiative to keep project timelines on track.
• Excellent communication, technical writing and problem-solving skills.
• Fluent English, written and spoken; German is a plus.

Required skills

• Great 3D and 2D CAD skills (CATIA V5 is a plus).
• Experience with PLM systems such as SmarTeam or Teamcenter is a plus.
