Mechanical Commodity Buyer

About the role

Stadler is looking for an experienced and results-driven Mechanical Commodity Buyer in Salt Lake City, Utah. You will manage strategic sourcing and procurement of mechanical components and assemblies for rail vehicle production programs, developing commodity strategies, negotiating with suppliers and ensuring timely, cost-effective and quality-compliant supply.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and execute sourcing strategies for mechanical commodities such as fabricated metal components, castings, forgings and machined parts.
• Lead commercial negotiations for pricing, contracts and long-term agreements.
• Work with Engineering, Quality and Production teams to align procurement with project timelines and technical specifications.
• Manage supplier relationships and performance, driving continuous improvement in cost, quality and delivery (KPIs).
• Identify, qualify and onboard suppliers, and conduct market research and TCO analysis.
• Take part in cross-site pooling activities.
• Support claims management, including liquidated damages, and help the NCR team with supplier escalations.
• Read technical drawings, specifications and BOMs, coordinate with suppliers and Engineering on deviations and engineering changes, and track drawing revisions.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, Engineering or a similar field.
• At least 2 years of experience in industrial or manufacturing purchasing.
• Fluent English, spoken and written; German is a plus.
• Resilient and independent, with strong organisational skills.

Required skills

• Very experienced with Microsoft Office.
• ERP systems, preferably Infor COM.
