Mechanical Engineering Intern – Spring 2027

About the role

Seasats designs autonomous surface vehicles for maritime missions. As a Mechanical Engineering Intern you will support the design, fabrication, assembly, and testing of vehicle hardware in a fast‑moving, hands‑on environment.

Key responsibilities

• Design mechanical parts and simple assemblies in SolidWorks and maintain CAD models, drawings, and BOMs.
• Assist with fixtures, tooling, and jigs for assembly and testing, and help source parts from suppliers.
• Assemble, inspect, and test mechanical components and sub‑assemblies.
• Support documentation, configuration management, and organization of design files.
• Collaborate with mechanical, electrical, and software engineers on electro‑mechanical systems.

Required profile

• 2‑3 years of coursework toward a BS or MS in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
• Hands‑on experience using SolidWorks for part and assembly design.
• Ability to read and create basic mechanical drawings with strong attention to detail.
• Comfortable working in a fast‑moving, hands‑on environment and iterating based on feedback.

Required skills

• SolidWorks CAD
• Mechanical drawing creation and interpretation
• Basic GD&T
• Experience with 3D printing, CNC machining, waterjet cutting, and shop tools
• Familiarity with part sourcing and supplier communication
