Mechanical Engineer – Movable Bridges & Infrastructure

About the role

We are seeking a Mechanical Engineer to join our Virginia Beach office, focusing on design and inspection of movable bridges and other heavy movable structures for transportation infrastructure projects.

Key responsibilities

• Perform mechanical design and field inspection for movable bridges and related structures.
• Prepare contract plans, special provisions, engineer’s estimates, inspection reports and technical memorandums.
• Review and comment on construction drawings, recommending necessary changes.
• Research design alternatives and document findings for project managers.
• Balance office design work with short‑term field assignments as needed.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (ABET‑EAC accredited).
• Virginia Professional Engineer license preferred, or ability to obtain within two years.
• Minimum five years of mechanical engineering experience, preferably in transportation infrastructure.
• Willingness to travel for short‑term assignments.
• Strong teamwork and communication skills.

Required skills

• Proficiency with AutoCAD (required).
• Experience with MicroStation (preferred).
• Competence in Mathcad for engineering calculations.
