Job description
About the role
Infleqtion is seeking a Mechanical Engineer II to support the design, documentation, and tooling of a flight‑relevant quantum gravity gradiometer payload. The role is hands‑on, turning technical direction into clean CAD models, release‑ready drawings, and practical fixtures that move the aerospace quantum payload from concept to integration.
Key responsibilities
- Create and revise CAD models and mechanical drawings for parts, tooling, fixtures, brackets, covers, adapters, and low‑complexity assemblies.
- Support opto‑mechanical, structural, thermal/mechanical, APPSH build, and AI&T tooling needs under senior engineer guidance.
- Develop drawing packages with dimensions, tolerances, materials, finishes, notes, and inspection features, applying GD&T and tolerance stack‑up thinking.
- Design for manufacturability, assembly, inspection, cleanliness, handling, and integration constraints.
- Collaborate with vendors and internal teams to resolve drawing questions, fabrication issues, and fit/function concerns.
- Participate in design reviews, peer checks, drawing releases, ECOs, and configuration updates.
- Perform simple analysis, hand calculations, and provide hands‑on build, fit‑check, and troubleshooting support in lab, shop, or AI&T environments.
- Document design decisions and open issues clearly for higher‑level owners.
Required profile
- Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or a related technical field.
- 2+ years of mechanical design experience, including CAD modeling and production‑quality mechanical drawings.
- Experience with SolidWorks or an equivalent CAD tool.
- Working knowledge of GD&T, engineering drawings, tolerance basics, material selection, and manufacturing processes.
- Ability to design simple tooling, fixtures, brackets, adapters, and low‑complexity parts with minimal rework.
- Strong collaboration and communication skills; able to take technical direction and close actions reliably.
- Comfortable supporting hands‑on hardware work in laboratory, shop, or integration environments.
