Mechanical Engineer – Healthcare Facilities

About the role

The Mechanical Engineer will join Cleveland Clinic’s Buildings and Design team, supporting the design, development and maintenance of over 40 million sq ft of real‑estate across three continents. This full‑time, onsite role works days from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm.

Key responsibilities

• Evaluate planned facility acquisitions for infrastructure operation and management issues.
• Oversee infrastructure components during planning and design phases.
• Assist in resolving construction issues to ensure codes, plans and standards are followed.
• Provide engineering consultation and troubleshooting for existing buildings and systems.
• Maintain and update Cleveland Clinic Mechanical Standards and ensure compliance with federal, state and local codes.
• Stay current with new technologies, codes, regulations and environmental concerns affecting mechanical systems.
• Develop, bid and supervise execution of facility repair projects.
• Perform engineering studies, assessments, and prepare reports for Facilities Management.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET‑accredited institution.
• Professional Engineer (PE) licensure.
• Minimum 5 years of mechanical design or operations experience in industrial, commercial or institutional facilities.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, schematics and computer‑generated reports.
• Strong collaboration skills across inter‑departmental teams and organizational leadership.
• Preferred: 3 years of healthcare mechanical design or project management experience, including medical‑gas requirements, ASHRAE application in a hospital setting, and health‑care fire and life‑safety codes.
