Mechanical Engineer – Hardware Product Development

About the role

Impulse is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to join its San Francisco team, working on‑site to design, develop and bring to production next‑generation hardware products for whole‑home electrification. You will collaborate closely with software, product management and leadership to turn concepts into high‑quality consumer electronics.

Key responsibilities

• Design and develop new hardware products, from concept through prototype to volume manufacturing.
• Create and iterate CAD models and detailed drawings, primarily using SolidWorks.
• Lead plastic injection molding and sheet‑metal design projects, ensuring manufacturability.
• Conduct hands‑on testing, failure analysis, and root‑cause mitigation for prototypes and production units.
• Develop and execute design‑of‑experiments to optimize product performance and manufacturing processes.
• Support ongoing production, sustaining engineering, and continuous improvement of design and manufacturing workflows.

Required profile

• 7+ years of experience as a mechanical engineer in consumer electronics, automotive or IoT.
• Proven track record of shipping high‑quality products.
• Excellent communication skills for conveying complex technical information across functions.
• Strong ownership mindset and ability to work independently in an evolving environment.
• Experience collaborating across multidisciplinary teams.
