Staff Systems Electrical Engineer – Hardware Development

About the role

Impulse is seeking a Staff Systems Electrical Engineer to lead the electrical architecture of its whole‑home electrification product line. The role covers power stage, battery integration, control electronics, sensing and interfaces to firmware, thermal and mechanical teams. You will own the architecture from concept through certification and production.

Key responsibilities

• Define system architecture and partition functionality across boards, processors and software.
• Own requirement flow‑down from product specification to subsystem specification and perform trade‑off analysis.
• Define and maintain hardware‑firmware, board‑to‑board, electrical‑thermal and mechanical boundaries.
• Decide what to reuse from the shared platform and what to contribute back.
• Address cross‑domain challenges such as control loops, sensing under stress, noise coupling, emissions and fault detection.
• Lead electrical design reviews and set standards for design quality.
• Analyze build‑versus‑buy decisions and guide the transition of design and manufacturing in‑house.
• Collaborate with JDM partners and internal teams to ensure successful program execution.

Required profile

• Proven experience designing complex electrical systems for consumer products.
• Hands‑on expertise in power electronics, battery integration and control circuitry.
• Ability to work across mechanical, thermal and firmware domains.
• Strong analytical skills for trade‑off studies and emissions compliance.
• Experience leading design reviews and documenting architecture.
• Comfort with guiding in‑house transition of design and manufacturing.
• Excellent communication and cross‑functional collaboration.
