Mechanical Design Engineer

About the role

Armstrong Fluid Technology is hiring a Mechanical Design Engineer in North Tonawanda, NY, reporting to the Global Manager, Mechanical & Hydraulic Development. The role is onsite and acts as a technical leader driving value stream activities such as new product development and enhancement of existing products, with a focus on electromechanical package systems.

Key responsibilities

• Design simple to complex package systems including pumps, fittings, piping, valves and control systems.
• Perform engineering calculations with minimal supervision and apply design-for-assembly principles and cost considerations.
• Create mechanical models and CAD drawings, prepare production-quality drawings and review them for accuracy and completeness.
• Perform thermal analysis using FEA and/or CFD, apply GD&T, and perform tolerance stack-ups.
• Contribute to DFMEA and other product analyses, and lead detailed design reviews for new components and product launches.
• Work with product, quality and manufacturing teams, suppliers and regulatory bodies to obtain product certifications, and liaise with testing and regulatory agencies.
• Maintain BOMs and drawings in the PLM system, support process improvement and follow internal and global design standards.

Required profile

• Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering (required).
• 5+ years of experience in design engineering in a manufacturing environment.
• Knowledge of centrifugal pump design and manufacturing, and experience designing pumping packages, are assets.
• Eligible to work in the United States; visa sponsorship is not available.

Required skills

• SolidWorks 3D, AutoCAD, Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
• GD&T knowledge.
• Preferred: electromechanical systems and controls design, PLM and ERP systems (e.g. Infor, SAP), and scripting or SolidWorks automation (Python, macros).
