Mechanical Design Engineer

About the role

Brooks Automation, a provider of automation solutions for the semiconductor and life sciences lab markets, is looking for a Mechanical Design Engineer to join its Laboratory Automation Solutions (LAS) team. You will help design and develop products that support the medical industry, working in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the design and development of machinery solutions, from concept design and detailed CAD models to prototype builds, testing, validation and transfer to manufacturing.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams, customers and suppliers on new product development and on supporting the existing product range.
• Create and maintain technical documentation covering design, manufacturing and compliance.
• Prototype and test mechanical designs to ensure performance, reliability and adherence to industry standards.
• Support manufacturing and assembly with hands-on technical guidance and resolve design-related issues.
• Mentor junior engineers and contribute to continuous improvement.
• Stay informed on emerging technologies and industry trends.

Required profile

• Tertiary qualification in Engineering (Mechanical, Medical, Mechatronics), Industrial Design or a related discipline.
• 7+ years of product design engineering experience, ideally in machinery, small appliances or materials handling, with electromechanical components such as motors, gears, pulleys and sensors.
• Proven experience in new product development from concept to production release.
• Strong communication, problem-solving and attention to detail, with a proactive approach to mentoring and autonomy.

Required skills

• Detailed part and component design, including tolerance stack-ups and custom part development.
• Proficiency in 2D manufacturing drawings using PTC Creo; GD&T knowledge highly desirable.
• Solid understanding of materials and manufacturing techniques.
