Mechanical Design Engineer

About the role

Benchmark Space Systems is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to develop propulsion components and systems from concept to hardware delivery. The role is on‑site at the Burlington, VT headquarters and involves collaboration across multiple engineering disciplines.

Key responsibilities

• Develop mechanical designs for components and systems, from early concept through production.
• Collaborate with electrical, software, analysis, test, fluids, and production engineers to integrate controls, validate designs, and support assembly.
• Source commercial and custom components, manage vendor relationships, and contribute to requirements, design reviews, test plans, and documentation.
• Support customer‑facing reviews (SRR, PDR, CDR) and maintain master equipment lists, bills of material, and mass growth estimates.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or related field.
• 3+ years of mechanical design experience in the aerospace industry.
• U.S. Person status; no visa sponsorship available.

Required skills

• Proficiency with CAD software (SolidWorks preferred) and generation of production‑ready drawings.
• Experience with mechanical analysis tools (SolidWorks Simulation, ANSYS) and hand calculations.
• Knowledge of DFM principles, manufacturing methods, and GD&T.
