Meat Clerk

About the role

Hy-Vee is hiring a Meat Clerk in its meat department in Overland Park. The role provides prompt, efficient and friendly customer service, wraps and trims products, stocks cases and receives merchandise in the meat and/or seafood department. It reports to the meat department manager and other store managers.

Key responsibilities

• Provide friendly customer service, greet customers by name when possible, escort them to products, load or unload heavy items and take customer orders by phone
• Wrap, weigh and label product; trim steaks, roasts and chops and prepare seafood for display
• Check food freshness, stock cases, rotate product and replenish coolers
• Tray, slice, tenderize and grind product, and remove trash
• Follow sanitation procedures and keep the work area clean
• Report out-of-stock items to supervisors and order replenishment merchandise as directed
• Prepare department signs and help in other store areas when needed

Required profile

• High school education or equivalent, with food safety training
• Six months or less of similar or related work
• Ability to follow written or verbal instructions and to do simple addition and subtraction
• Physical ability to lift up to 85 pounds occasionally, 40 pounds frequently and 10 pounds constantly, plus climbing, stooping, kneeling and repetitive motion
• Working conditions: cool, damp environment, frequent noise from saws, cleaning solvents and possibility of electrical shock
