Delicatessen Clerk

About the role

Hy-Vee is hiring a Delicatessen Clerk in its Overland Park store. The clerk handles food safely, keeps the work area clean and neat, runs the department registers and receives payments, and provides courteous, friendly and efficient customer service. The position is non-exempt and reports to the District Store Director, Store Manager, Assistant Managers, Perishables, Store Operations and Health Wellness Home, Food Service Director and Delicatessen Department Manager.

Key responsibilities

• Provide prompt, friendly customer service, greet customers by name when possible, and escort or help customers find products
• Answer the telephone and take customer orders, then review orders for the day
• Follow proper sanitation procedures, check food freshness and maintain an adequate food supply using a production list
• Prepare, finish and replenish products, check in product, put it away and review invoices
• Run the department registers, make change and remove trash in a timely manner
• Adhere to hygiene, dress and company policies, report to work on time, and follow guidelines on personal hygiene and dress
• Secondary duties include washing dishes, ordering product and supplies, delivering orders, pricing products and helping in other store areas

Required profile

• Age 18 or older
• Less than high school education or equivalent, and six months or less of similar or related work experience
• Able to understand and follow verbal or demonstrated instructions, write identifying information, and solve arithmetic involving fractions, decimals and percentages
• Physical ability to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally, 20 pounds frequently and 10 pounds constantly, with clear vision, color vision and depth perception
• Ability to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, reach, stand, walk, push, pull, lift, grasp, feel, talk, hear and perform repetitive motions

Working conditions include daily exposure to dust, noise, equipment movement hazards and electrical shock, occasional temperature extremes and cleaning chemicals, and a fast-paced environment. Employment is contingent on a pre-employment drug screen.
