Meat Clerk

About the role

Hy-Vee is hiring a Meat Clerk in its Meat Department in Omaha. The role provides prompt, efficient and friendly customer service, wraps, trims, stocks cases and receives merchandise in the Meat and/or Seafood Department. It is non-exempt, reports to the Meat Department Manager and other managers, and works in a fast-paced, cool and damp environment with frequent noise from saws and exposure to cleaning solvents.

Key responsibilities

• Provide prompt, efficient and friendly customer service, greet customers by name when possible, escort them to products, load or unload heavy items and answer the telephone to take orders
• Wrap, weigh and label product; trim steaks, roasts and chops and prepare seafood for display
• Check food freshness, stock cases, rotate product, replenish coolers and report out-of-stock items
• Tray, slice, tenderize and grind product, remove trash and keep the work area clean and sanitized
• Follow personal hygiene and dress guidelines, report on time and work as a team
• Secondary duties: prepare some department signs, order replenishment merchandise as directed by management, help in other store areas and complete special projects

Required profile

• Age 18 or older
• High school or equivalent education and food safety training
• Six months or less of similar or related work
• Ability to follow written or verbal instructions, do simple addition and subtraction, count and record figures
• Physical ability to lift up to 85 pounds occasionally, 40 pounds frequently and 10 pounds constantly, plus climbing, stooping, kneeling, reaching and repetitive motions
• Visual acuity from less than 20 inches to more than 20 feet with or without correction, depth perception and color vision

Working conditions include a cool, damp environment, frequent noise from saws, exposure to cleaning solvents and the possibility of electrical shock. Employment is contingent on a pre-employment drug screen.
