Materials Manager

About the role

The Materials Manager leads the planning, organization, and control of the materials department, ensuring smooth flow of orders through the plant to meet scheduled shipping dates. This role oversees sourcing, production, and inventory functions while driving continuous improvement.

Key responsibilities

• Determine optimal inventory investment levels, set targets, and monitor compliance.
• Implement and manage the manufacturing database, including Bill of Materials, Routings, Forecasts, Item Costs, and MRP parameters.
• Monitor order status, report to managers, and take corrective actions to keep schedules on track.
• Develop supplier relationships and collaborate with Global Sourcing on MCTO initiatives.
• Manage purchase orders, invoicing, and budget adherence reporting.
• Organize annual physical inventory or oversee ongoing cycle counting.
• Coordinate with Central Planning to achieve service level and working‑capital targets.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree relevant to the role.
• 10+ years progressive experience in materials functions within manufacturing.
• Proven ability to lead continuous‑improvement initiatives (e.g., TPS).
• Strong analytical, communication, and judgment skills.
• Extensive experience with ERP systems, specifically M3, for inventory control, scheduling, and forecasting.
• Customer‑oriented mindset and effective teamwork across the organization.
