Master Police Officer

About the role

Georgetown University seeks a Master Police Officer to perform law‑enforcement functions on campus, protecting students, faculty, staff, visitors and dignitaries. The role includes patrols, event security, investigations, access control and safety system management.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct regular patrols of the Hilltop or Capitol Campus.
• Provide event security and manage access control systems.
• Investigate incidents and prepare detailed reports.
• Operate circulation and safety systems, including emergency response.
• Serve as Watch Commander in the absence of a Police Sergeant.

Required profile

• High school diploma (college degree preferred).
• 1‑3 years of security, law‑enforcement or military experience.
• U.S. citizenship, at least 21 years old, and able to obtain a Special Police Officer’s Commission.
• Valid driver’s license with clean record and ability to pass university driver certification.
• Successful completion of the Consortium of Universities Law Enforcement Academy or equivalent training.
• Ability to pass written, drug, medical, psychological tests and a comprehensive background investigation.

Required skills

• Certification in Baton/OC Spray.
• CPR/First Aid certification.
• Police cycling or field training certification (or ability to obtain).
• Proficiency with Microsoft Word, email and basic computer applications.
• Strong verbal and written communication, including report writing.
