Market Grille Cook

About the role

Hy-Vee is hiring a Market Grille Cook in Perry, an hourly position in its Market Grille department. The cook prepares fresh, hot and cold menu items from prep to plate, keeps the food case stocked and makes sure every order is prepared with care in a fast-paced kitchen environment.

Key responsibilities

• Provide prompt, friendly customer service, greeting customers by name and keeping interactions positive
• Prepare cooking surfaces and all menu items, including vegetables, sides, meats, breakfast foods and heat-and-eat varieties
• Place food in hot cases, monitor amounts and refill as needed during the shift
• Know all menu items, take guest orders and prepare items for upcoming shifts
• Maintain a thorough understanding of the Market Grille operation and practice proper sanitation, keeping the work area clean and organized
• Order product and supplies or notify department managers of needs
• Work as a team, assist in other parts of the store and take on special projects as assigned
• Follow personal hygiene, dress standards and store policies, and report to work on time

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent experience required
• Six months or less of similar or related work experience; full training is provided
• Able to solve practical problems, follow and give directions, and perform simple math and accurate counting and recording
• Ability to safely use sharp knives and blades, and to handle heat and burn hazards from cooking equipment
• Ability to operate a delivery vehicle in line with DOT standards, where applicable

The work is physically demanding: standing and walking throughout a shift, repetitive standing, walking, reaching and bending, and exposure to cleaning chemicals and solvents. Employment is contingent on passing a pre-employment drug screen.
