Marine Surveyor - Los Angeles

About the role

Sedgwick is hiring a Marine Surveyor in Los Angeles. The role inspects cargo damaged in transit, determines the nature, cause and extent of the damage, reviews documents to establish when the damage occurred, and provides written reports to underwriters and other parties with a qualified opinion on the cause of loss.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee loading and unloading of cargo from ships and other modes of transport to document damage as it occurs.
• Inspect damaged ships to determine the cause and amount of damage from collisions or motor failures.
• Review documents to determine when the cargo was damaged.
• Provide written reports to underwriters and other parties with a qualified opinion on the cause of loss.
• Perform other duties as assigned and support the organization's quality programs.
• Travel as required.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university preferred.
• Five years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Ability to work independently and in a team, meet performance competencies and deadlines, and handle multiple priorities and stress.
• Physical ability to stand or walk for long periods, kneel, squat or bend, work outdoors in hot or cold weather, climb, crawl, stoop, reach overhead, push or pull up to 100 pounds, drive up to 4 hours per day, and use manual dexterity continuously.

• PC literate, including Microsoft Office products.
