Manufacturing Engineer

About the role

Adient is hiring a Manufacturing Engineer in Lansing, Michigan, on the first shift (6am-3:30pm). The engineer designs, develops and validates manufacturing processes, tooling and equipment, supports prototype builds and production launches, and works with production teams to keep lines balanced and performance targets met.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop, implement and validate manufacturing processes, methods, tooling, equipment and controls.
• Analyze labor utilization, equipment needs, workflow, space and layout to improve efficiency.
• Support prototype development, builds and production launches, including as part of the SDT or Pre-Launch Team.
• Take part in product design reviews to ensure manufacturability and recommend better designs, materials or processes.
• Prepare manufacturing studies on cost, quality, inventory, feasibility and process capability.
• Select, approve and develop tooling and equipment, and train others on new processes.
• Establish and verify poka-yoke (error-proofing) systems and act as a technical resource for continuous improvement.
• Work with Ergonomics and Health & Safety teams, report incidents, and comply with ISO and IATF 16949 standards.
• Develop PFMEAs, Process Flow Diagrams, Control Plans and Operator Instruction Sheets.
• Act as a customer liaison for design and engineering matters and complete required training.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Industrial, Manufacturing or Electrical Engineering, or equivalent experience.
• 3+ years of manufacturing engineering or related manufacturing experience; automotive experience strongly preferred.
• Hands-on experience implementing processes, methods, tooling, equipment and controls.
• Ability to work the first shift, flex time, work overtime and oversee major changes to off-shift operations.

• Proficiency with Windows and Microsoft Office.
• Strong organizational, analytical, communication and time-management skills.
