Maintenance Worker I

About the role

The Maintenance Worker I supports the Service Department in a wide range of public‑works tasks, ensuring the city’s streets, parks, stormwater systems, and facilities are kept safe and functional.

Key responsibilities

• Perform maintenance on streets, stormwater infrastructure, parks, grounds, buildings, snow/ice removal, lighting, and cemetery areas.
• Assist with setup and breakdown of community events and other public‑works projects.
• Work in adverse weather conditions and handle physically demanding tasks.
• Support emergency call‑ins and occasional weekend or holiday work as needed.

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Valid state driver’s license.
• Effective communication skills for interacting with the public and colleagues.
• Self‑starter attitude with the ability to work independently or as part of a team.
• Willingness and physical ability to work in adverse weather conditions.

Required skills

• Public works, service, or maintenance experience (preferred).
• Heavy equipment operation experience (preferred).
• Class A or B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) or ability to obtain one within 24 months (preferred).

What we offer

• Pay up to $26.00 per hour; starting pay $20.00 per hour or higher plus benefits.
• Regular 40‑hour work week, Monday‑Friday 7:00 am‑3:30 pm; occasional weekends, holidays, and emergency call‑ins.
