About the role
The Machinist II works in the Texas A&M Engineering machine shop, fabricating, maintaining, and repairing metal parts, tools, and equipment to support faculty, students, and research projects. This onsite position requires precision work from drawings, prints, or verbal instructions.
Key responsibilities
- Perform semi‑complex mechanical jobs, machining steel, aluminum, and other materials to tight tolerances.
- Manufacture gears, threads, shafts, adaptors, jigs, and fixtures based on engineering drawings.
- Assist faculty and students with laboratory tasks, experiments, and research equipment.
- Order and manage parts inventory for the machine shop.
- Provide routine maintenance for laboratory equipment.
Required profile
- High school diploma or equivalent; combination of education and experience accepted.
- Five years of related machining or metal‑fabrication experience.
- Graduates of a vocational training program are preferred.
Required skills
- Word processing applications.
- Spreadsheet applications.
- Reading and interpreting engineering drawings and sketches.
- Mathematical computation ability.
- Metal fabrication and machining techniques.
