Machine Operator I (2nd Shift)

About the role

McWane Plant and Industrial (MPI) is looking for an experienced Machine Operator for its Job Shop Fabrication and Machining operation. The operator measures, threads, adjusts flange fit and faces flanges on ductile or steel pipe, using manual machine tools such as lathes and threaders, and operates the machines and crane to move pipe in and out of machining centers. The position reports to the Branch Manager, works the 3:00 PM to 12:00 AM shift, and pays $20.81 starting with a 24-month wage progression.

Key responsibilities

• Ensure personal and team safety, wear appropriate PPE, and keep the work area clean
• Follow the Clear Water Safety Management Program and report deviations to management
• Identify fabrication requirements for each piece of pipe, place and center the pipe, and machine tapered threads while checking thread depth and taper
• Test the flange, apply glue, and tighten the flange onto the pipe
• Threaders remove the pipe for the next operation; lathes run the cutting tool across the flange face to flush-fit it
• Work mainly with pipe and flanges 3" to 6" in diameter and 4 inches to 18 feet long
• Meet production output targets, work overtime and extended hours, and work outside in all weather and in dust and fumes

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent desired
• Previous experience with machinery desired
• Ability to read a tape measure and micrometer, good with math, and consistent attendance
• Team player willing to help on a variety of machines, able to work in loud noise and outdoors
• Must be able to operate a forklift and obtain certification

Required skills

• Proficiency with quality control and ability to meet production objectives
• Some knowledge of industrial tools, their uses and maintenance
• Close vision, depth perception, color distinction and ability to adjust focus
