General Worker - Plant and Industrial Fabrication

About the role

McWane Plant & Industrial is looking for a General Worker to join its Job Shop Fabrication and Machining operation. The worker performs a variety of tasks supporting the plant, helps colleagues service, repair and adjust equipment, and assists with daily cleaning, inspection and maintenance so that operations stay safe, reliable and compliant. The position reports to the Branch Manager.

Key responsibilities

• Ensure personal and team safety, wear appropriate PPE and keep the work area clean
• Operate production machinery or assist machine operators
• Saw cut ductile iron pipe 3" to 48" diameter, 1 to 20 feet long
• Lift raw materials, finished goods and packed items, manually or with hoists and forklifts
• Paint completed products, stack, crate and secure items for shipment
• Inspect products for quality conformance, check equipment and count finished products
• Mark or tag parts, load and unload items from machines, conveyors and vehicles, and record production data
• Follow the Clear Water Safety Management Program and advise management of deviations

Required profile

• High school diploma, GED or equivalent experience preferred
• Ability to lift up to 10 pounds regularly, 25 pounds frequently and 50 pounds occasionally, and to work in dust and fumes
• Ability to work overtime and extended hours, and outside in all weather
• Close vision, depth perception, colour distinction and English communication
• Some knowledge of industrial tools, their uses and maintenance

Required skills

• Forklift operation and certification
• Knowledge of production and mechanical processing

What we offer

• Starting rate of $19.17 per hour, top rate $21.36 per hour
• 24-month wage progression
