Machine Learning Scientist, BioML

About the role

Profluent, an AI lab focused on biology, is seeking a Machine Learning Scientist to advance generative and predictive models for proteins and nucleic acids. The role combines cutting‑edge AI research with deep domain knowledge of molecular biology to drive innovative solutions for medicine and agriculture.

Key responsibilities

• Design and develop state‑of‑the‑art predictive and generative models that integrate evolutionary and experimental data.
• Train large‑scale protein and nucleic‑acid datasets on specialized architectures for understanding and design.
• Curate relevant datasets, define evaluation tasks, and benchmark generative models.
• Collaborate with protein design and experimental teams to translate models into wet‑lab validation.
• Implement, analyze, and present computational results in regular update meetings.
• Contribute to the scientific and strategic vision of the company within an interdisciplinary team.

Required profile

• PhD or equivalent industry experience in Computer Science, Machine Learning, Computational Biology, Applied Mathematics, Statistics or related field.
• Proven track record of conceiving, implementing, and evaluating novel ML techniques at the biology interface.
• Publications in top ML conferences (NeurIPS, ICML, ICLR) or high‑impact scientific journals.
• 3–5 years of industry experience in machine learning research.

Required skills

• Deep learning frameworks: PyTorch, Jax.
• Cloud compute platforms: GCP, AWS, Azure, OCI.
• Data extraction and curation from bioinformatics sources.
• Familiarity with protein and nucleic‑acid biology and experimental assay constraints.
