Software Engineering Manager, Lab Informatics Platform

About the role

Profluent is seeking a product‑focused Engineering Manager to lead its Lab Informatics Platform team. You will combine technical leadership, people management, and product ownership to deliver tools that enable scientists to design experiments, track samples, capture assay data, and integrate with lab automation and analysis pipelines.

Key responsibilities

• Lead, mentor, and grow a small software engineering team building scientific data infrastructure and scientist‑facing applications.
• Define and communicate the platform roadmap, balancing scientific impact, user needs, engineering effort, scalability, and long‑term data strategy.
• Architect and guide delivery of systems for sample tracking, assay capture, Benchling integration, lab automation, metadata management, and analysis workflows.
• Design robust data models for protein engineering and gene‑editing experiments across mammalian and bacterial workflows.
• Collaborate closely with wet‑lab scientists, automation engineers, data scientists, and ML researchers to translate laboratory workflows into scalable software solutions.
• Establish strong engineering and product practices including architecture, code review, testing, CI/CD, documentation, stakeholder communication, and agile delivery.

Required profile

• 7+ years of software engineering experience, including at least 2 years in a managerial or lead role.
• BS, MS, or PhD in Computer Science, Bioengineering, Computational Biology, or a related discipline.
• Proven ability to mentor engineers, make technical decisions, and own product roadmaps.
