Low Voltage & Data Technician – Field Installation

About the role

This position serves as the field representative for construction and service projects at multi‑dwelling unit properties. The technician installs pre‑configured network devices, structured cabling, and low‑voltage systems such as access control, video surveillance, IoT/smart home, and audio/video solutions.

Key responsibilities

• Assist internal teams and subcontractors to complete project scopes on time.
• Install, verify, and perform quality control on networking and low‑voltage work.
• Schedule resources to align with construction timelines.
• Maintain material levels and inform the Install Manager of inventory needs.
• Track project budgets and communicate scope changes or risks.
• Terminate and test structured cabling (Cat5e/Cat6, fiber optic).
• Install and configure network devices, switches, wireless APs, cameras, and access control readers.
• Perform basic programming, configuration, and troubleshooting of low‑voltage systems.
• Uphold safety standards and work in varied climates and conditions.

Required profile

• High School Diploma or GED required; college education preferred.
• At least 3 years of experience with networking, cabling, and low‑voltage systems.
• Construction field experience and familiarity with networking/Wi‑Fi technology are strong assets.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to travel up to 60% of the time.
• Physical ability to lift 50 lb and work on job sites.

Required skills

• Structured cabling installation (Cat5e, Cat6, fiber optic).
• Low‑voltage system installation (access control, CCTV, IoT, audio/video).
• Network device installation (switches, wireless APs, cameras, readers).
• Cabling termination and testing.
• Basic configuration, programming, and troubleshooting of low‑voltage systems.
• Fundamental networking and Wi‑Fi knowledge.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
