Linux Systems Administrator – Defense Lab

About the role

Marathon TS is looking for an experienced Linux Systems Administrator to support the Mission Performance & Security Systems Division. The role involves managing both air‑gapped and cloud‑connected laboratory environments that enable engineers and developers to design, integrate, and test complex mission systems.

Key responsibilities

• Administer and support standalone (air‑gapped) and cloud‑connected infrastructure across multiple classification levels.
• Install, configure, troubleshoot, and maintain servers, workstations, storage solutions, and networking hardware.
• Assist with integration of embedded hardware, simulation tools, and test platforms.
• Maintain system baselines, configurations, and documentation in compliance with security policies.
• Enforce cybersecurity controls per DoD directives (STIGs, RMF, CMMC) and manage accreditation artifacts for the ATO process.
• Provide hands‑on support for builds, upgrades, patching, and troubleshooting in lab and test environments.
• Collaborate with engineers, developers, and program teams to align infrastructure with project goals.
• Monitor system performance, availability, and security posture, taking proactive corrective actions.
• Oversee inventory management, lifecycle planning, incident response, audit readiness, and compliance inspections.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Cybersecurity, Information Systems or related field (preferred).
• U.S. citizenship and ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance.
• 5–8 years of professional experience in IT or cybersecurity, including system design, security analysis, and user support.
• Hands‑on experience in both Microsoft Windows and Linux environments.
• Strong written communication, analytical, and presentation skills.
