Lifeguard II – Part‑Time Pool Safety

About the role

The Lifeguard II works under the Aquatics Director to ensure a safe, clean, and welcoming pool environment for members. Shifts vary across mornings, afternoons, evenings, and weekends.

Key responsibilities

• Continuously scan the pool, recognize and respond to emergencies, and activate the Emergency Action Plan when needed.
• Perform rescues, provide CPR, First Aid, and emergency oxygen, and complete incident reports promptly.
• Enforce pool rules, maintain a clean environment, and assist with pool cleaning and testing when off‑duty.
• Communicate consistently with supervisors, participate in safety drills, and attend required trainings.
• Arrive 10 minutes before shift, secure doors when unattended, and manage coverage for any schedule changes.

Required profile

• At least 18 years of age.
• Physically able to stand or sit for extended periods, lift up to 50 lb, and scan the pool visually.
• Ability to interact verbally with members and staff in a moderate‑to‑high noise environment.

Required skills

• Active YMCA or Red Cross Lifeguard certification.
• CPR, First Aid, and Emergency Oxygen certification.
• Professional Lifeguard and Disappearing Dummies training.
• Child Abuse Prevention training (first four weeks) and Respect in the Workplace (sexual harassment prevention).
