Library Assistant (Full‑time)

About the role

The University of Miami Library is seeking a full‑time Library Assistant to provide front‑line customer service at the Access Desk in Coral Gables, FL. You will help patrons locate materials, supervise student staff, and ensure smooth daily operations of the library.

Key responsibilities

• Manage the Access Desk, handling check‑in/out, renewals, interlibrary loan (ILL) and reserve materials.
• Supervise student assistants and coordinate referrals to the Learning Commons.
• Welcome patrons, collect requested books from the stacks, and assist with paging requests.
• Maintain headcounts, monitor library entrances, and enforce library policies.
• Resolve patron account issues, negotiate fines, and handle other service inquiries.
• Participate in opening and closing duties, including building safety checks.
• Support the night supervisor in preserving a scholarly atmosphere.

Required profile

• Strong customer‑service orientation with the ability to interact courteously with a diverse university community.
• Excellent organizational skills and the ability to prioritize multiple tasks.
• Reliability for scheduled shifts, including evenings and weekends as needed.
