Legal Counsel

About the role

The Legal Counsel joins a global legal team to provide proactive, commercial‑focused legal support for Springer Nature across the Americas. Reporting to the Head of Legal (North America), the role blends licensing, commercial agreements, litigation and emerging technology matters.

Key responsibilities

• Partner with the Legal Director for Sales to draft, negotiate and manage complex licensing agreements with academic, corporate and government customers across North and South America.
• Provide commercially‑sensitive advice on contracts, intellectual property, data privacy, AI, compliance and regulatory issues.
• Support litigation, subpoenas, internal investigations and dispute resolution, including discovery coordination and strategy development.
• Deliver training to commercial and sales teams on contract negotiation, licensing, compliance and legal risk management.

Required profile

• Juris Doctor from an ABA‑accredited law school and admission to the New York State Bar.
• Minimum 4 years of experience handling corporate, commercial, IP and technology matters in a law firm or in‑house setting.
• Proven ability to influence senior stakeholders and build trusted business partnerships.
