About the role
The International Rescue Committee is seeking a bilingual Legal Assistant to support its Children’s Legal Services program in Atlanta. The role involves direct interaction with unaccompanied immigrant children, assisting attorneys in preparing immigration filings and managing case documentation.
Key responsibilities
- Coordinate and receive case referrals, create and maintain electronic and hard‑copy case files.
- Conduct intake and follow‑up meetings with child clients, provide interpretation as needed, and collect supporting documents.
- Prepare filings for Immigration Court, Georgia State Courts, and USCIS, including affidavits and legal correspondence.
- Communicate with clients to schedule appointments, provide case status updates, and request additional information.
- Travel locally to meet clients in Cobb, DeKalb, Gwinnett, and Fulton counties as required.
Required profile
- Bilingual proficiency (English and a second language commonly spoken by client population).
- Strong interpersonal and trauma‑informed listening skills, especially with children.
- Highly organized with excellent attention to detail.
- Ability to work both collaboratively within a team and independently on assignments.
