Lecturer – English Department (Teaching Writing Programs)

About the role
The English Department at the University of Maryland, College Park seeks qualified lecturers to teach in its Academic Writing and Professional Writing programs. Lecturers will deliver first‑year composition courses and a range of specialized writing classes, contributing to the department’s mission of fostering critical thinking and clear communication.
Key responsibilities
- Teach first‑year composition (ENGL101) within the Academic Writing program.
- Deliver specialized Professional Writing courses such as Technical Writing, Business Writing, Science Writing, Health Professions Writing, Social Entrepreneurship Writing, and Non‑Profit Writing.
- Provide instruction for 200‑level literature courses when needed.
- Manage up to four courses per term, including syllabus design, grading, and student feedback.
Required profile
- Advanced degree (Ph.D. or terminal master’s) in English, Writing Studies, or a related field.
- Demonstrated teaching experience in composition or professional writing.
- Ability to teach in‑person on the College Park campus.
- Willingness to undergo a background check.
Required skills
- Strong command of academic and professional writing pedagogy.
- Experience designing and delivering writing curricula.
