Lecturer – Economics & Social Data Science

About the role

The Department of Economics at the University of Maryland, College Park seeks a full‑time Lecturer to teach undergraduate courses in economics and the interdisciplinary Social Data Science major. The appointment begins August 23, 2026 and is a nine‑month academic year position.

Key responsibilities

• Teach up to three undergraduate courses per semester, including introductory economics, applied statistics, and data‑oriented economics classes.
• Develop and deliver courses in the Social Data Science major such as Python Programming for Data Science and Data Science for Social Science.
• Participate in departmental service activities, including curriculum development and student advising.
• Potentially teach winter and summer sessions for additional compensation.

Required profile

• ABD (Ph.D. preferred) in Economics, Data Science, Information Science, or a closely related field.
• Demonstrated excellence in undergraduate teaching.
• Ability to engage a diverse student body and contribute to an inclusive academic community.

Required skills

• Proficiency in Python programming.
• Proficiency in R programming.
