Lead Substation Protection and Controls Engineer (Remote)

About the role

Leidos is looking for a Lead Substation Protection and Controls Engineer to join its Power Delivery Services team. The role owns complex protection and control designs across 12 to 500 kV systems, using advanced digital logic and AC/DC circuit expertise to protect the modern grid and enable renewable integration. The position is fully remote, but candidates must live in Canada and be willing and able to travel to customer sites in the United States as needed.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and support the delivery of substation protection and control design projects, ensuring technical excellence and on-time performance.
• Create and refine relay one-line diagrams that define protection zones and system topology.
• Develop detailed AC schematics and DC control and protection schematics.
• Design control panels, wiring diagrams and physical layouts, and build accurate BOMs.
• Perform QC checks on wiring and schematic designs, and partner with design staff to produce complete drawing packages.
• Contribute from early scoping through final design, implementation and energization support, and give technical guidance during installation, testing and commissioning.
• Apply National Electrical Safety Code requirements and interpret utility-specific standards.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or a related field, with 8 or more years of substation protection and control design experience.
• Experience leading and executing substation protection and control projects.
• Ability to communicate clearly with internal teams and clients, meet deadlines and work in a team with leadership when needed.
• Self-starter who takes initiative with minimal supervision, and willing to travel to project sites and client locations.
• Candidates must live in Canada.
