Lead Lab Assistant - Air Conditioning Technology

About the role

The State of Georgia, through Athens Technical College, seeks a Lead Lab Assistant to support the Air Conditioning Technology program. This role ensures smooth laboratory operations, student supervision, and compliance with safety standards.

Key responsibilities

• Assist faculty with classroom instruction, exams, record keeping and safety procedures.
• Supervise and mentor students during lab and tutoring sessions.
• Maintain a clean, organized and safe laboratory environment, including weekly checks of refrigerant, nitrogen, oxygen and acetylene cylinders.
• Perform inventory management, requisition supplies and ensure workstations are fully stocked.
• Inspect and maintain lab equipment, tools, brazing and soldering torches, eye‑wash stations and first‑aid kits.
• Set up equipment and materials for daily labs and ensure emergency exits and shut‑offs remain clear.
• Greet visitors, support special projects and complete all required employee trainings.

Required profile

• Diploma in Air Conditioning Technology from a regionally accredited institution.
• EPA Section 608 Universal Certification.
• At least three years of experience working in an air‑conditioning technology environment or equivalent.

Required skills

• EPA Section 608 Universal Certification.
• Refrigerant handling and cylinder inventory management.
• Laboratory equipment maintenance and troubleshooting.
• Knowledge of brazing, soldering and safety procedures.
