Lead Internal Auditor – Medical & Pharmacy Contracts

About the role

The Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services (DPSCS) seeks a Lead Internal Auditor to oversee finance, compliance, efficiency and KPI audits of medical, mental health, pharmacy and dental contracts for incarcerated individuals. The role relies heavily on data analytics, Microsoft Access and SQL to validate contract performance and ensure billing accuracy.

Key responsibilities

• Plan, schedule and assign audit work for junior auditors.
• Review and supervise junior auditors’ findings and provide guidance on unusual issues.
• Assist the audit supervisor in training staff on fiscal compliance and Yellow Book standards.
• Develop audit test procedures, assess risk, and identify material exceptions to GAAP and contract terms.
• Perform lead reviews of audit work, validate contractor billings, and report compliance results.

Required profile

• Experience conducting internal audits in a government or large‑scale organization.
• Familiarity with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and government auditing standards (Yellow Book).
• Ability to supervise and mentor junior audit staff.
• Strong analytical mindset and attention to detail.
