Lead Equipment Operators

About the role

The Lead Equipment Operator will operate a variety of heavy‑equipment machines for groundwork and asphalt paving projects. This full‑time position is based in Greensboro, NC, supporting construction activities for Thompson‑Arthur Paving and Construction, a CRH company.

Key responsibilities

• Control material flow into pavers, maintain proper depth and temperature, and operate paving machines to ensure continuous asphalt placement.
• Perform minor servicing and maintenance on equipment, report major issues, and keep machines in efficient working condition.
• Operate a range of equipment including rollers, graders, backhoes, bobcats, bulldozers, and concrete finishing machines.
• Coordinate truck dumping, manage traffic control, and set up/tear down equipment on job sites.
• Inspect, clean, maintain, and repair equipment using hand tools, and follow safety procedures.

Required profile

• High school diploma or GED; minimum 1 year related experience (3 years preferred in road construction).
• Valid CDL Class A or B driver’s license with possible hazmat/tanker endorsements.
• Pass pre‑employment physical, drug screen, and background check.
• Willingness to work nights, weekends, and travel as needed.

Required skills

• Heavy equipment operation (rollers, graders, pavers, backhoes, bobcats, bulldozers).
• Knowledge of asphalt paving processes, material handling, and equipment maintenance.
• Ability to read and follow job specifications, safety guidelines, and written instructions.
