Lead Embedded Software Engineer, Airborne Software

About the role

BETA Technologies is seeking a Lead Embedded Software Engineer to drive the development of safety‑critical airborne software for its electric aviation platforms. The role combines hands‑on coding, system architecture, and technical leadership in a vibrant, inclusive environment.

Key responsibilities

• Analyze system architecture, hardware specs, and safety requirements to lead design, integration, testing, and analysis of embedded software projects.
• Coordinate with systems, safety, configuration management, QA, and airworthiness teams to achieve certification.
• Define work assignments, feature sets, and deadlines for a team of up to 20 engineers.
• Prepare project status reports, manage dependencies, and address certification considerations for leadership and certifying authorities.
• Mentor junior engineers on DO‑178C objectives, real‑time safety‑critical best practices, and troubleshooting techniques.

Required profile

• BS in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science or related field.
• Minimum 10 years of real‑time embedded software development for safety‑critical systems.
• Expert knowledge of DO‑178C Level A compliance and related certification processes.
• Proven ability to lead and organize a software team of up to 20 engineers.

Required skills

• Embedded C development and bare‑metal board bring‑up.
• RTCA DO‑178C, DO‑330 tool qualification, and DO‑331 model‑based development.
• Model‑based software engineering, software product line engineering, and formal methods.
• Experience with electric motor control, battery management, or flight control systems.
