Law School Externship – Legal Volunteer for Senior Law Center

About the role

SeniorLAW Center, a nonprofit dedicated to protecting the legal rights of older adults, is seeking law students to join its team as legal volunteers. This hybrid externship offers hands‑on experience with a focus on elder‑law issues, community outreach, and systemic advocacy.

Key responsibilities

• Assist with client intake and conduct telephone or in‑person interviews.
• Manage a small individual caseload under supervision.
• Support legal staff on complex litigation and case preparation.
• Develop community education materials and help organize outreach workshops.
• Perform legal research, drafting, and writing tasks.
• Participate in systemic advocacy initiatives.
• Handle office tasks and special projects as needed.

Required profile

• Second‑year law students preferred; first‑year students with bilingual abilities or strong public‑interest experience will be considered.
• Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.
• Demonstrated commitment to public interest and sensitivity to older adults from diverse backgrounds.
• Interest in elder law, housing, family law, consumer protection, or advance planning.
