Law Firm Billing Specialist

About the role

Fawkes IDM is hiring a Billing Specialist in Washington, DC, to manage the billing process and billing arrangements for assigned attorney portfolios. The role covers everything from verifying rates and monitoring fee caps to sending final bills to clients and handling related inquiries.

Key responsibilities

• Verify rates with rate analysts, review and implement outside counsel guidelines, monitor fee caps, tier discounts and matter budgets, set up and monitor alerts, and communicate with the Billing & Intake Committee about discounts, write-downs and write-offs.
• Manage the prebill-to-final-bill process, ensure accurate prebills are returned on time, submit finalized bills and eBills in the right templates, and confirm they are posted in the accounting system.
• Work with eBilling Coordinators on new client accounts and with the Accounting Systems Administrator to update fields per client billing guidelines; submit invoices electronically, follow up on acceptance and payment, and respond to client inquiries and requests for billing information.
• Answer questions on accruals, audits and payment reports, recommend solutions based on billing trends, and prepare ad hoc reports.
• Keep pre-bill statuses updated, monitor unapplied credit balances, help Accounts Receivable with payment applications, and keep partners informed on unapplied and trust funds.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance or business preferred, or equivalent experience.
• Prior law firm experience as a biller required.

Required skills

• Experience with financial management systems software.
• Complex accounting analysis using advanced Excel and reporting skills.

What we offer

• Anticipated base salary of $55,000 to $88,000.
