Late Night Specialist

About the role

The Late Night Specialist provides essential library services during overnight hours at the University of Maryland’s College Park campus. Working primarily from 11 p.m. to 8 a.m., Sunday through Thursday, the role supports students and faculty when the campus library is otherwise closed.

Key responsibilities

• Circulate books, equipment, reserves, and interlibrary loan items at the Library Services Desk and TLC Tech Desk.
• Communicate library policies, enforce building access rules, and maintain physical facilities and equipment.
• Assist and guide library support staff in delivering services and security functions.
• Respond to security breaches, patrol the building, and reset alarms as needed.
• Provide cross‑training and support to other units within the User Services and Resource Sharing department.
• Work overtime during finals weeks and adapt to a modified schedule during winter and summer terms.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree.
• At least one year of experience in an academic or public library setting.
• Knowledge of library missions, circulation and reserves policies, and copyright law.
• Ability to deliver quality customer service and work effectively in a team.

Required skills

• Experience with Alma or another integrated library system.
• Familiarity with overnight security operations for large public buildings.
